In the context of an increasingly competitive international academic landscape, reinforcing collaborations between institutions is a key point. As a first step to strengthening the cooperation between I-SITE ULNE and KU Leuven and its Kulak Kortrijk and Bruges (Belgium) campuses in the building of a European transnational campus, a total of 9 projects have been selected by a joint I-SITE ULNE / KU Leuven jury. This will make possible the financing of joint doctorates (cotutelles), 6 of which are financed by I-SITE ULNE and 3 by KU Leuven. The different projects on which the future PhD students will work fit within one of the three key research domains (“Hubs”) described in the I-SITE ULNE project, and will be jointly supervised by a promoter from each institution. It is the strong intention that these joint directorships will be the start of a more structural collaboration between the different research teams and between the two institutions as a whole.
