The ULNE I-SITE project highlighted a concentration of local excellence related to three interconnected research themes: Health, Planet, and the Digital World:
Precision human health:
- promoting systemic biology and precision medicine;
- catalysing the digital revolution in biomedical research;
- optimising impact for the patient and society.
Science for a changing planet:
- understanding and monitoring global changes;
- seeking alternative solutions to the exploitation of fossil resources;
- evaluating the impact of global changes on people, the earth and societies.
Human-friendly digital world:
- humanities for a user-friendly digital world;
- mastering complexity with innovative conceptual tools;
- moving from a disruptive concept to a user-friendly device.
The research strategy aims to sustain and expand excellence in these three research strands by supporting the best projects, encouraging high-potential researchers and attracting new talent.
This includes the development of an environment conducive to research and innovation: financing for specific projects and for the purchasing of equipment, the recruitment of doctoral and post-doctoral students, as well as the establishment of junior and senior academic research chairs.
At the same time, I-SITE ULNE’s ambition is to create fertile ground for the emergence of young researchers through a doctoral incubator (the aim of which is the early detection and recruitment to doctoral programmes of the best students) and doctoral Graduate Schools.
The project also aims to support and optimise the influence of research at the European level (ERC, European projects).
Finally, the I-SITE ULNE strives to encourage transdisciplinary projects to strengthen the position of the Humanities and Social Sciences.
